Amal Maher's Enchanting Concert at 58th Carthage International Festival

Amal Maher created a magical evening at the Roman Theatre of Carthage, drawing a large crowd on Sunday, August 10th. Her fans, eagerly awaiting her performance, filled the venue with anticipation, even singing snippets of Om Khathoum’s songs as a warm welcome.

Returning to the Carthage International Festival after a nine-year absence (since 2015), the young Egyptian singer graced the stage once again as part of the 58th edition of the festival. The evening was marked by a joyful atmosphere and a deep connection with her audience.

At 10 PM, the orchestra, led by Maestro Thamer Faïdni and consisting of 45 musicians (including a choir and both oriental and western instruments), took their positions. Amal Maher made her entrance shortly after, dazzling in a light gray sequined gown. The audience erupted in applause, lighting up the venue with their phones. After a graceful bow and heartfelt words—"I missed you, I love you"—the audience responded with equal enthusiasm.

The concert began with a tender romance accompanied by a violin, setting a gentle tone for the night. By the second song, Amal handed the microphone to the audience, inviting them to sing along with her. The invitation was eagerly accepted, and the crowd joined in with enthusiasm.

Known for her "Tarabi" style, praised by critics and composers alike, Amal was discovered by composer Mohamed Melligi before gaining admiration from others like Ammar El Sherei. As she moved through various "maqams," the audience was thrilled, and Amal engaged them with generous smiles and energy, leading them in refrains with renewed vigor.

For two hours, Amal Maher performed songs from her six albums, including "Qalou Bil Kathir," "Laou Kan Bi Khatiri," "Asl Al Ihsas," "Weld El Nahar Da," and "Ana Kweissa." The audience sang along, swaying to the music with joy. The atmosphere was electric.

The concert took a nostalgic turn as Amal revisited timeless classics, such as "Baktdheb Aalik" by Warda, which resonated deeply with the crowd. Inevitably, the audience requested a song by the Star of the Orient, and Amal obliged with a spirited rendition of "Alf Leila We Leila," followed by "Mawoud" by Abdelhalim Hafez, showcasing her position as one of the best young female voices of her generation.

With elegant melodies, a fluid voice, and graceful movements, Amal Maher transitioned seamlessly from classical Tarab to modern styles, delivering hit after hit, including "Skket Al-Salama." Her performance captivated the audience, who visibly displayed their admiration.

In a delightful surprise, Amal Maher dedicated the song "Sidi Mansour" to her audience, expressing that it is "the song closest to her heart." This gesture of love and connection was warmly received.

Judging by the thunderous ovations and positive remarks, this concert undoubtedly marked a memorable moment in Amal Maher's career, as well as a joyous occasion for her fans.
